Parappuduwa is an island located in the middle of Ratgama LakeĀ in Sri Lanka. This island is well known thanks to former buddhist nun’s monastery grounded by sister Ayya Khema.
The Parappuduwa Nun’s Island monastery was officially opened on 9th September 1984.
The nun’s monastery was closed 1987 and was abandoned for 20 years. Now buddhist monks live there and continue in tradition of a buddhist monastery at Parappuduwa.
